Yes—northern Tanzania (Arusha, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire) is very safe for tourists. Wildlife viewing happens from vehicles with expert guides; parks have strict rules. Petty theft is rare in tourist areas—use common sense like any travel destination
Year-round is great, but:
Dry season (June–October): Best for Great Migration in Serengeti (river crossings Jul–Sep), fewer mosquitoes, easier spotting. Peak season—book early!
Green season (Nov–May): Lush landscapes, baby animals, lower prices/crowds (short rains Nov–Dec, long rains Mar–May). Avoid heavy rain periods if possible.
Tanzania excels at Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, rhino—Ngorongoro has high rhino density). Plus: giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, hippos, wildebeest migrations (Serengeti), tree-climbing lions (Manyara), massive elephant herds (Tarangire), and 500+ bird species.
Neutral colors (no bright/white/black), lightweight long sleeves/pants, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, binoculars, camera, light jacket (cool mornings/evenings), insect repellent, comfortable shoes, reusable water bottle, medications.
Yes—many families do. Kids under 5 often free entry; child rates available. Some luxury camps have age minimums (6–12). Family-friendly options with safe vehicle
