From hosting Couchsurfing travelers in Moshi to running a TALA-licensed safari company β the story behind Let's Wander Tanzania.
My name is Christian John Mabula. I grew up in the Kilimanjaro region, surrounded by the landscapes that travelers come from across the world to see β the plains, the crater, the mountain, the rivers. Sharing this world has always felt natural to me.
Before starting the company in 2016, I hosted travelers through Couchsurfing β introducing visitors to village walks, traditional food, coffee tours, waterfalls, and local experiences that no brochure mentions. What started as genuine hospitality became a mission: to help travelers discover the real Tanzania, not just the postcard version of it.
Today, Let's Wander Tanzania is TALA-licensed, listed on SafariBookings and TripAdvisor with a 5.0 rating, and trusted by couples, families, solo travelers, and groups from across Europe, North America, and Australia. Every trip is still built with the same personal attention I gave to my very first guests.

Tanzania's crown jewel. The endless golden plains host the largest animal migration on Earth β over 1.5 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra, and 300,000 gazelle in a continuous cycle across the ecosystem.
Beyond the migration, the Serengeti offers world-class big cat sightings year-round. Lion prides, cheetah mothers with cubs, and leopards draped over acacia branches are all regular sightings with an experienced guide.

Africa's Garden of Eden
The world's largest intact volcanic caldera β 20km wide, 600m deep, hosting approximately 25,000 animals, including Tanzania's densest population of black rhino. Big Five sightings are almost guaranteed.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Crater combines breathtaking scenery with extraordinary wildlife density. Morning game drives are particularly magical β mist rising from the crater floor as lions stir.
Often overlooked by first-timers, Tarangire is a hidden gem that experienced travelers return to. It hosts Tanzania's largest elephant herds β some numbering 300+ animals β moving through ancient baobab forests along the Tarangire River.
Over 550 bird species recorded. Less crowded than the Serengeti, more intimate, and with some of the most dramatic dry-season wildlife concentration in East Africa.
The elephant sanctuary
Beach & island paradise
The perfect ending to any Tanzania safari. White-sand beaches and warm Indian Ocean waters offer a complete contrast to the dust and drama of the plains. Stone Town β a UNESCO Heritage Site β tells the island's Arab, Persian, Indian, and African story through its alleys and carved wooden doors.

The "Whiskey Route" β our top recommendation. Longer acclimatization profile, stunning varied scenery, and the highest success rate. Approaches via the southern circuit with views from the Shira Plateau.
The premium route β longer, quieter, and with the best acclimatization profile on the mountain. Approaches from the remote western side through pristine rainforest. Ideal for a full Kilimanjaro experience.
The "Coca-Cola Route" β the only route with hut accommodation. Shorter duration makes it more affordable but reduces acclimatization time. Best for experienced trekkers on a tighter schedule.
Approaches from the north via Kenya β drier and less muddy during wet seasons. A quieter alternative to Machame with excellent wildlife sightings in the lower forest zones.

Honest advice from a local operator β costs, seasons, parks, and everything first-time safari travelers need to know.
A transparent breakdown of budget vs mid-range vs luxury β with real prices from a local operator, not vague industry ranges.
Read Guide βDry season vs green season, migration timing, calving season, and which months offer the best value β from someone who's been in every month.
Read Guide βA first-hand account of a morning spent with the Hadzabe tribe near Lake Eyasi β what happens, what to expect, and why no two visits are the same.
Read Guide βIf you've spent any time searching this question, you've noticed something frustrating: every website gives you a different number. Some operators quote $250 a day. Others quote $800. A few throw around figures north of $1,500 without explaining why.
Here's the honest answer. A private Tanzania safari typically costs between $300 and $500 per person, per day for a quality mid-range experience. Budget options bring that down to $200β$300. Luxury lodges push past $700β$1,000+.
The reason the numbers vary so much is simple: most guides are written by luxury operators. They're not wrong β those prices exist. They're just not the whole picture.
Before comparing numbers, understand what a daily safari rate should cover:
What it typically does not include: international flights, your Tanzania visa ($50), travel insurance, tips for your guide, and alcoholic drinks. Any operator who doesn't make this distinction clearly upfront β ask directly.
Budget safaris ($200β$300/person/day) usually mean camping accommodation or simple guesthouses near the parks. You'll likely have a private vehicle. Meals are simple but filling. The wildlife access is identical β same parks, same roads, same animals. What changes is your comfort at the end of the day.
Mid-range safaris ($300β$500/person/day) give you a private vehicle and guide, comfortable lodges or tented camps with real beds, en-suite bathrooms, and hot showers. Meals improve noticeably. This is the tier that gives you a genuinely comfortable safari without paying for butler service you won't use on a 9-hour game drive day.
The jump from budget to mid-range is about privacy and comfort. The jump from mid-range to luxury is mostly about location exclusivity and fancier dinners.
Here are real prices from our own packages β so you have honest numbers, not abstract daily rates:
Group size and vehicle sharing. A shared group safari is cheaper per person than a fully private one. Always confirm which you're being quoted.
Who you're booking through. International travel agents based in Europe or North America often add 30β100% on top of what local Tanzanian companies charge for the same experience.
Season. Peak season (JuneβOctober) commands higher prices. The green season (MarchβMay) can save you 20β30% on identical itineraries.
What's actually included. Always ask whether park fees and all meals are bundled into the price, or added as extras later.
Tell us your dates, group size, and budget β we'll send you a full itinerary and price within 24 hours.
For health-related guidance including vaccinations, always consult your own doctor or a travel health clinic before booking.
There is no single "best" month to visit Tanzania β the right time depends entirely on what you want to see. The country offers extraordinary wildlife experiences year-round. What changes is the type of experience, the landscape, the crowds, and the price.
This guide breaks down every month honestly β based on years of guiding travelers through Tanzania's parks in every season.
Dry Season (JuneβOctober) is the most popular time to visit. Vegetation is sparse, wildlife gathers around water sources, and game viewing is exceptional. This is peak migration river crossing season in the northern Serengeti and Masai Mara. Prices are highest and parks are busiest β but for good reason.
Green Season (NovemberβMay) brings rain, lush landscapes, newborn animals, and far fewer tourists. Two shorter dry spells β the "short dry" in JanuaryβFebruary and a brief break in late November β offer excellent conditions. Prices drop 20β30%. The green season is genuinely underrated.
One of the best-kept secrets in Tanzania. The Ndutu Plains host the wildebeest calving season β up to 8,000 calves born per day at peak. Predator activity is extraordinary. This is our Ndutu Calving Season safari's home season. Warm and dry in Ndutu, with some rain elsewhere.
The long rains arrive in March, peaking in April. Parks are lush and green, newborn animals everywhere, and almost no other tourists. Some roads become challenging. Prices are lowest. Good for photography and intimate wildlife experiences.
The dry season kicks in and the Serengeti starts to fill with wildebeest moving north. River crossings begin at the Grumeti River. Excellent all-round game viewing across all parks. Our Zanzibar extension packages are particularly popular this time of year.
The Great Migration reaches the Masai Mara in Kenya and the northern Serengeti. Mara River crossings β the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth β happen almost daily. This is the busiest and most expensive time. Book 4β6 months ahead. Our Kenya & Tanzania Migration packages are designed for this window.
Short rains typically last 3β4 weeks in November. December brings drier conditions and the holiday season. Wildlife viewing remains good in Tarangire and Ngorongoro throughout. Good value window before the calving season begins in January.
Tell us what you want to see β migration, calving season, or simply the best available dates β and we'll recommend the ideal timing for your safari.
Before we get to the animals, the lodge, or the game drives β let me tell you about a morning that changes how people see the world.
Near Lake Eyasi in northern Tanzania, about two hours from Arusha, lives one of the last hunter-gatherer communities on earth. The Hadzabe have lived this way for tens of thousands of years β hunting with bows and arrows, foraging wild berries and roots, sleeping in simple shelters built from branches and grass. They have no fixed address, no cultivated fields, and no written language. Their entire culture is carried in memory and practice.
A morning with them is unlike anything else in Tanzania β or anywhere in the world.
You arrive before sunrise at the edge of the bush. Your guide introduces you to a group of Hadzabe hunters, who greet you with quiet curiosity. There's no stage, no performance, no gift shop. They are simply going about their morning β as they have every morning of their lives.
The hunters move through the bush in near silence, reading the ground for tracks, listening for birdsong that signals where prey might be. They carry handmade bows β carved from local wood, strung with tendons β and arrows tipped with small metal points they forge themselves.
If they spot something β a bird, a small animal β everything happens fast. The bow rises, the shot is almost instantaneous. The accuracy is extraordinary. These are people who have been doing this since childhood.
Tanzania has many cultural tourism experiences β Maasai village visits, Chagga coffee tours, Mto wa Mbu market walks. All of them are valuable. But the Hadzabe experience is different in one fundamental way: there is no separation between the performance and the reality. The hunters are not showing you their culture. They are living it, and you are briefly alongside them.
Most guests describe it as humbling. You spend your morning with people who have everything they need β food, shelter, community, purpose β and almost nothing that modern life considers essential. The perspective shift is genuine and lasting.
We work only with community-approved guides and ensure that fees paid for Hadzabe visits go directly to the community. We do not work with operators who stage or dramatize the experience. The Hadzabe have chosen to welcome visitors on their own terms β and we respect that choice completely.
It can be added to almost any northern circuit safari. Send us a message and we'll show you how it fits.

This six-day private budget safari delivers Tanzania's three greatest wildlife destinations β Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti β plus a rare cultural encounter with the Hadzabe tribe, at the best possible price point for couples travelling on a budget.
The tour begins with a local town exploration in Arusha before heading into the bush, and ends with a walking experience alongside the Hadzabe β one of Africa's last hunter-gatherer peoples β making this itinerary as culturally rich as it is wildlife-packed. Accommodation is in budget-friendly resthouses and camps inside the parks, putting you as close to the wildlife as possible at every stage.
Every element of this tour is private β the vehicle and guide belong exclusively to you as a couple throughout all six days.
Your safari begins with a morning orientation tour of Arusha β Tanzania's safari capital and a fascinating small city in its own right. Your guide takes you through the local market, the cultural melting pot of the town centre, and the vibrant streets where Maasai warriors shop alongside office workers and street food vendors. It is a genuine and unfiltered introduction to modern Tanzanian life.
In the afternoon you drive southwest to Tarangire National Park, arriving in time for a late afternoon and evening game drive along the iconic Tarangire River. The evening hours in Tarangire are magical β elephants move to water in the golden light, lions become active as the temperature drops, and the ancient baobab trees glow amber against the setting sun.
Overnight: Tarangire Rest House or Camping (subject to availability) Β· Meals: Lunch & Dinner
A full day in Tarangire β one of Tanzania's most rewarding parks and consistently underrated compared to the Serengeti. Morning game drives along the Tarangire River deliver extraordinary elephant encounters, with herds sometimes numbering in the hundreds congregating at the water's edge. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and over 550 bird species call this park home.
The ancient baobab trees scattered across the landscape give Tarangire a prehistoric, otherworldly atmosphere that makes game drives here feel unlike anywhere else in Africa. After a full day in the park, you transfer to Mto wa Mbu for overnight.
Overnight: Jua Manyara Lodge, Mto wa Mbu Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
An early start takes you to the Ngorongoro Crater β a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. You descend 600 metres into this ancient volcanic caldera for a full morning game drive among approximately 25,000 large animals: lion prides, massive elephant bulls, endangered black rhino, hippo pools, and the famous flamingo flocks of Lake Magadi.

Overnight: Serengeti Rest House or Camping (subject to availability) Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

The Seronera Valley at the heart of the central park is world-renowned for its year-round big cat population β leopards in fever trees, cheetahs on termite mounds, lion prides on granite kopjes.
A full bush picnic lunch keeps you in the field from dawn to dusk, maximising every moment in this extraordinary wilderness. The Serengeti rewards those who stay patient β the longer you watch, the more you see.
Overnight: Serengeti Rest House or Camping (subject to availability) Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
A final morning game drive in the Serengeti before heading east. The morning hours are always productive β predators returning from the night's hunt, elephants on the move, and the golden light perfect for photography. After a picnic lunch, you exit the park and drive back towards Mto wa Mbu, arriving in the late afternoon for your final bush overnight.
Overnight: Jua Manyara Lodge, Mto wa Mbu Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
The final day delivers one of the most extraordinary experiences in Tanzania. You drive to Lake Eyasi to meet the Hadzabe β one of the last true hunter-gatherer peoples in Africa, who have lived in the bush for tens of thousands of years without changing their way of life. Their language, one of the oldest on earth, is characterised by distinctive click sounds that connect them to humanity's earliest roots.
Your guide facilitates a genuine walking experience with Hadzabe hunters as they demonstrate traditional bow hunting, fire-making with sticks, and bush survival skills. This is not a performance for tourists β it is an authentic encounter with one of the world's oldest living cultures, and an experience that stays with people long after they return home.
In the late afternoon, you drive back to Arusha, arriving in the early evening. Your guide drops you at your hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport β six extraordinary days of Tanzania complete.

Materuni β’ Tarangire β’ Ngorongoro β’ Serengeti β’ Lake Manyara Β· 7 Days | 6 Nights | Private Tour | Departing from Arusha
This seven-day private mid-range safari is one of the most complete Tanzania experiences available β combining a breathtaking waterfall hike on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania's four greatest wildlife parks, and three full days in the Serengeti into a single seamless journey.
It begins differently from any other safari β with a guided hike to the stunning Materuni Waterfalls through coffee plantation country on the foothills of Kilimanjaro, setting the tone for a week of adventure and discovery. From there, the itinerary builds through Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti before finishing with an early morning Lake Manyara game drive β famous for its tree-climbing lions and flamingo-lined shores.
Every day is private, every experience exclusively yours as a couple.
Your Tanzania adventure begins not on the savannah but on the lush green slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. After breakfast, your guide collects you for the drive to Materuni village β a Chagga community nestled in the coffee-growing highlands above Moshi, where the air is cool and the views of Kilimanjaro are extraordinary on clear mornings.
A guided hike through dense rainforest and working coffee plantations leads you to the Materuni Waterfalls β a spectacular 70-metre cascade plunging into a natural pool where you can swim in the cool mountain water. Your guide explains the traditional Chagga way of life and the coffee-growing process along the way. It is a completely unexpected and deeply memorable way to begin a Tanzania safari.
In the afternoon, you drive back to Arusha for dinner and overnight.
Overnight: Moivaro Coffee Lodge, Arusha Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After breakfast, you drive southwest towards Tarangire National Park for a full afternoon of game drives. The park is defined by the great Tarangire River β a lifeline for wildlife during the dry season β and the ancient baobab trees that give the landscape its iconic, prehistoric character.
Enormous elephant herds, sometimes numbering in the hundreds, congregate along the riverbanks alongside lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and over 550 bird species. Tarangire is one of Tanzania's most rewarding parks and consistently surprises first-time visitors with the sheer density of wildlife. In the evening you transfer to your lodge for dinner.
Overnight: Mama Dunia Lodge Β· Meals: Lunch & Dinner
An early departure takes you to the Ngorongoro Crater β a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the greatest wildlife arenas on earth. You descend 600 metres into the ancient volcanic caldera for a full morning game drive among approximately 25,000 large animals: lion prides, massive elephant bulls, endangered black rhino, hippo pools, and the famous flamingo flocks of Lake Magadi.
After a picnic lunch on the crater floor, you ascend and drive west into the Serengeti, arriving at your camp as the golden light of late afternoon stretches across the endless plains.
Overnight: Embalakai Authentic Camps, Central Serengeti Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
A full day in the heart of the Serengeti β the Seronera Valley, world-renowned for its extraordinary year-round big cat population. Your guide tracks predator movements across the savannah, following fresh tracks and monitoring the behaviour of lions, leopards, and cheetahs that make this area their home.
Leopards drape themselves across the branches of fever trees, cheetahs scan the open plains from termite mounds, and lion prides bask on the smooth granite kopjes that punctuate the landscape. A full bush picnic lunch keeps you in the field, maximising every moment in this extraordinary wilderness.
Overnight: Embalakai Authentic Camps, Central Serengeti Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Another full day in the Serengeti β because one day is never enough. With the freedom of a second full day, your guide can explore different areas of the central Serengeti, revisit productive game drive routes, and give you the time to simply sit and watch wildlife unfold at its own pace.
The Serengeti rewards patience. A pride of lions may spend the morning sleeping on a kopje before moving to hunt in the late afternoon. A cheetah may stalk prey for an hour before making its move. With two full days, you experience both the drama and the quieter, meditative rhythm of the African bush. Sundowners on the open plains as the Serengeti sky turns orange and red are an experience unlike any other.
Overnight: Embalakai Authentic Camps, Central Serengeti Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
A final productive morning game drive in the Serengeti before beginning the drive east. The early hours are always the most rewarding β predators are still active from the night, elephants are on the move, and the light is at its most beautiful.
You drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and up into the cool, green highlands of Karatu β a welcome change of scenery after the heat of the Serengeti plains. Arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon for a relaxed final evening before the last day of the safari.
Overnight: African Safari Karatu Lodge, Karatu Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Your final safari day begins with an early morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park β one of Tanzania's most beautiful and diverse parks. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, found resting in the branches of fig and acacia trees in a behaviour unique to this region of Tanzania.

A full day exploring Amboseli β one of Africa's great elephant parks. The Amboseli ecosystem supports over 1,600 elephants whose movement patterns have been studied for decades, making them among the most relaxed and approachable elephants on the continent. Morning game drives are spectacular β the light on Kilimanjaro at dawn is extraordinary, and the elephant herds move across the swamps in the soft golden light.
The Amboseli swamps, fed by underground springs from Kilimanjaro's glaciers, attract enormous concentrations of wildlife and waterbirds. Hippos wallow in the deeper channels, buffalo graze the marsh edges, and hundreds of pelicans, herons, and storks work the shallows. A full bush picnic lunch keeps you in the field all day.
Overnight: Nyati Camp, Amboseli Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After a morning game drive in Amboseli, you begin the drive north towards Lake Nakuru National Park in the Great Rift Valley β a completely different ecosystem and a completely different wildlife experience. The landscape changes dramatically as you climb from the dry Amboseli plains into the greener highlands of central Kenya.
Lake Nakuru is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its enormous flocks of flamingos β in good years, up to two million birds turn the lake pink from shore to shore. The park is also a sanctuary for both black and white rhino, as well as Rothschild's giraffe, lion, leopard, and a staggering variety of waterbirds. Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive around the lake shore.
Overnight: Buraha Zezoni Camp, Lake Nakuru Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After a morning game drive around Lake Nakuru, you drive west towards the Masai Mara β Kenya's most celebrated wildlife reserve and the northern stage of the Great Wildebeest Migration. The drive takes you through the scenic Rift Valley escarpment and into the vast open savannah of the Mara ecosystem.
You arrive in time for an afternoon game drive across the Mara plains. Between July and October, over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra fill the landscape, and the atmosphere crackles with the tension of predators and prey in constant proximity. The Mara River teems with Nile crocodiles waiting for the crossing herds.
Overnight: Rhino Camp, Masai Mara Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
A full day in the Masai Mara β one of Africa's greatest wildlife experiences. Your guide positions you at the Mara River crossing points where wildebeest herds gather in their thousands, working up the courage to plunge into the crocodile-infested waters below. When the crossing happens, the chaos, speed, and raw power of survival instinct is unlike anything else on earth.
Between crossing vigils, the game drive continues through the open Mara plains β tracking cheetah hunts, lion pride movements, and the constant drama of predator and prey during peak migration season. A full day bush picnic keeps you in the field from dawn to dusk.
Overnight: Rhino Camp, Masai Mara Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
An early departure from the Masai Mara takes you south towards the Isebania border crossing β the gateway between Kenya and Tanzania. After completing border formalities, you enter Tanzania and drive directly into the northern Serengeti, where the migration continues on the Tanzanian side of the ecosystem.
The northern Serengeti is wilder, less visited, and more dramatic than the central park. The Mara River continues its course southward through this landscape, and wildebeest crossings occur here as well during July to October. You arrive in time for a sunset game drive and overnight at the public campsite β falling asleep to the sounds of the Serengeti at night.
Overnight: Serengeti North Public Campsite Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
A full day exploring the northern Serengeti β the least visited and arguably most dramatic section of Africa's most famous park. Lion prides are large and active here, hunting the abundant migrating herds. Leopard sightings are frequent along the Mara River course, and cheetahs race across the open northern plains in pursuit of Thomson's gazelle.
The absence of the large crowds found in the central Serengeti gives wildlife encounters here an intimacy and wildness that feels genuinely remote. Your guide tracks predator movements and migration herds across the rolling northern landscape, maximising every hour of daylight.
Overnight: Serengeti North Public Campsite Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After a final morning game drive in the Serengeti, you drive east towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The landscape shifts dramatically as you leave the open savannah and climb into the forested highlands surrounding the crater rim. You arrive at the Simba Campsite on the crater rim β at 2,300 metres altitude, the air is cool and the views across the crater floor below are breathtaking, especially at sunset.
Camping on the Ngorongoro crater rim is one of the great experiences in African travel β hyenas visit the campsite after dark, the stars are extraordinary at altitude, and the sense of anticipation for tomorrow's crater descent is electric.
Overnight: Simba Camp, Ngorongoro Crater Rim Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
An early morning descent into the Ngorongoro Crater β 600 metres below the rim β brings you into one of the world's most extraordinary ecosystems. The crater is home to approximately 25,000 large animals in a self-contained volcanic caldera: lion prides with cubs, massive elephant bulls, the endangered black rhino (one of the rarest sightings in Africa), hippos wallowing in pools, buffalo herds numbering in the thousands, and the famous flamingo flocks of Lake Magadi.
After a full morning game drive and picnic lunch on the crater floor, you ascend and drive down to Mto wa Mbu β the vibrant town at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment β for your final overnight before the last day.
Overnight: Jua Manyara Lodge, Mto wa Mbu Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
The final day delivers one of the most extraordinary experiences in Tanzania. You drive to Lake Eyasi to meet the Hadzabe β one of the last true hunter-gatherer peoples in Africa, who have lived in the bush around the lake for tens of thousands of years. Their click-consonant language is one of the oldest on earth, linking them directly to the earliest chapters of human history.
Your guide facilitates a genuine walking experience with Hadzabe hunters as they demonstrate traditional bow hunting, fire-making with sticks, and bush survival skills passed down through countless generations. This is a deeply moving and unforgettable cultural encounter β a fitting final chapter to ten extraordinary days of East Africa.
In the late afternoon you drive back to Arusha, arriving in the early evening. Your guide drops you at your hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Meals: Breakfast included
Note: River crossings cannot be guaranteed as they depend on wildebeest behaviour. JulyβOctober offers the highest probability of witnessing this spectacle across both countries.

Between July and November, over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle move northward through the Serengeti and into the Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing. The Mara River crossings β where massive herds plunge into crocodile-infested waters in a frenzy of chaos and survival β are widely considered the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth. This tour puts you in the right place at the right time, on both sides of the border.
Three full days in the Masai Mara followed by three days in the northern and central Serengeti gives you the maximum possible time with the migration. Every element is private β the vehicle, the guide, and the experience belong exclusively to you as a couple throughout all seven days.
Your guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for the scenic drive southwest to the Masai Mara National Reserve β Kenya's most celebrated wildlife destination and the northern stage of the Great Wildebeest Migration.
You arrive in time for an afternoon game drive across the open savannah of the Mara, where the sheer density of wildlife is immediately striking. Lions, elephants, cheetahs, giraffes, hippos, and enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra fill the landscape. Between July and November, the Mara River teems with crocodiles waiting for the crossing herds, and the atmosphere across the reserve crackles with predator-prey tension.
Overnight: AA Lodge, Masai Mara Β· Meals: Lunch & Dinner
A full day dedicated to the Masai Mara and the Mara River. Your guide positions you at the crossing points where wildebeest herds gather in their thousands, pacing the riverbank as crocodiles wait below. When the first animal jumps, the chaos that follows is one of the most electrifying experiences in nature β a thundering mass of hooves, splashing water, snapping jaws, and raw survival instinct playing out in front of you.
River crossings cannot be guaranteed as they depend on wildebeest behaviour, but your guide's expertise and knowledge of the Mara maximises your chances of witnessing one. Between crossing vigils, the game drive continues β big cat sightings in the Mara are exceptional during this period, with lion prides actively hunting the migrating herds and cheetahs racing across the open plains.
Overnight: AA Lodge, Masai Mara Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Another full day in the Masai Mara. With three days in this extraordinary reserve, you have the time to move beyond the river crossings and explore the wider ecosystem β tracking leopards in the riverine forest, watching lion prides with cubs, following cheetah hunts across the open grasslands, and simply absorbing the atmosphere of one of Africa's greatest wildlife experiences.
The Mara Triangle in the western section of the reserve often offers excellent game viewing with fewer vehicles, and your guide knows the quieter corners that deliver the most intimate encounters. A full bush picnic lunch keeps you in the field all day.
Overnight: AA Lodge, Masai Mara Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
An early morning departure from the Masai Mara takes you south towards the Isebania border crossing β the gateway between Kenya and Tanzania. This overland crossing is a unique moment in the safari, as the landscape barely changes but the wildlife legislation does, moving from Masai Mara National Reserve into the Serengeti ecosystem on the Tanzanian side.
After completing border formalities, you drive directly into the northern Serengeti β arriving in time for a sunset game drive across the open plains. The northern Serengeti is the Tanzania mirror of the Masai Mara, with the Mara River continuing its course southward and migration herds moving freely across the invisible border. As the sun sets over the Serengeti, the scale and beauty of this landscape reminds you why this is Africa's most iconic wilderness.
Overnight: Moyo Hill Camp, Northern Serengeti Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
A full day exploring the northern Serengeti β the least visited and most dramatic section of the park. The Mara River runs through this area, and during July to October, wildebeest crossings occur on the Tanzania side as well, giving you a second opportunity to witness this extraordinary spectacle from a different vantage point.
Your guide tracks predator activity across the rolling hills and open plains of the north, where lion prides are large and active, hunting the abundant migrating herds. Leopard sightings are frequent along the river course, and the absence of large crowds compared to the Masai Mara gives these encounters an intimacy that feels truly wild. A full day bush picnic keeps you in the field from dawn to dusk.
Overnight: Moyo Hill Camp, Northern Serengeti Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
A relaxed morning at camp β sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast, and enjoy the sounds of the northern Serengeti at rest. In the early afternoon, you begin the drive south towards the central Serengeti and the famous Seronera Valley, stopping for game drives along the way as the landscape transitions from the rolling northern hills to the open savannah of the centre.
The Seronera Valley is world-renowned for its year-round big cat population β leopards draped across the branches of fever trees, cheetahs scanning the plains from termite mounds, and lion prides resting on smooth granite kopjes. An afternoon and evening game drive in the Seronera is the perfect transition between the migration spectacle of the north and the classic Serengeti game drive experience.
Overnight: Embalakai Authentic Camps, Central Serengeti Β· Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
A final morning drive through the central Serengeti before heading east towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After ascending from the crater, you drive to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey.
