Good to Know
Yes. Tanzania is one of Africa\’s most politically stable countries and safari tourism is a well-established, well-regulated industry. You\’ll be with an experienced driver-guide in a private 4×4 at all times, and our team monitors weather, road conditions, and park updates throughout your trip. As with any travel, we recommend comprehensive travel insurance and following your guide\’s instructions in the field.
Most nationalities require a visa, available either online in advance (the eVisa) or on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Julius Nyerere International Airport, or major land borders. We recommend applying for the eVisa at least two weeks before travel. Let us know your nationality and we can advise on the exact requirements.
Yellow fever vaccination is required if you\’re arriving from (or have transited through) a country with risk of yellow fever transmission; otherwise it\’s generally recommended rather than mandatory. Routine vaccinations (MMR, tetanus, hepatitis A/B, typhoid) and malaria prophylaxis are commonly advised. Please consult a travel health clinic or your doctor 4–6 weeks before departure for guidance specific to your circumstances.
Tipping is customary but always at your discretion. A general guideline is USD 15–20 per day for your driver-guide and USD 10–15 per day (shared among staff) at camps and lodges, though this varies by group size and length of stay. We\’re happy to advise further once your itinerary is confirmed.
For peak season travel (June–October and the December–March calving season), we recommend booking 3–6 months ahead, as camps in high-demand areas like Ndutu and the Serengeti fill quickly. For other times of year, 4–8 weeks is usually sufficient, though earlier is always better for securing your first-choice accommodation.
US Dollars (cash, notes dated 2009 or later, in good condition) are widely accepted for park fees, tips, and many lodges. Tanzanian Shillings are useful for local markets and small purchases. Credit cards are accepted at most lodges and hotels in towns but connectivity in remote camps can be unreliable, so we recommend carrying sufficient cash for tips and incidentals.
Share your travel dates and dreams — we'll design a safari that fits your pace, budget, and bucket list.
