Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. You do not need ropes or technical skills to reach the summit, but you do need preparation, the right route and a good team.
Your trek passes through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert and finally the glaciated summit. The route you choose changes the number of days, the scenery and your success rate. Longer routes with slow acclimatisation, such as Lemosho and the Northern Circuit, give better chances of reaching the top.
Quick answer: best time
The two best climbing windows are January to March and June to October, when skies are clearer and trails are drier. April to May and November bring rain and cloud, so we normally recommend avoiding them. June to August is busiest, so a quieter route like Lemosho helps.
Top months: Jan, Feb, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep
