Best time for a safari
There is no bad month for wildlife, but each season shows you something different.
June – October
The best wildlife viewing and the most stable weather. River crossings in the northern Serengeti run from about July to October. Peak season, so book early.
January – March
Newborn wildebeest and the predators that follow them in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu. Lush, green and quieter.
November – May
Lower prices and fewer vehicles. Short rains in November and December, long rains from March to May.
Add-ons we can arrange
Most guests add one or two of these. We build them into the same itinerary so everything is in one quote.
Hot-air balloon
A sunrise balloon over the Serengeti, about $490–550 per person.
Hadzabe walking safari
Our signature experience at Lake Eyasi: a bush walk and hunting demonstration with the Hadzabe.
Maasai village visit
Meet a Maasai community, about $80 per person on the packages that offer it.

A waterfall hike, coffee farm visit and a swim at Chemka Hot Springs near Moshi.

Safari questions
Cannot find your answer? Message us on WhatsApp and we will reply personally.
Are your safaris private?
Yes. Our safaris run as private trips with your own 4x4 Land Cruiser and driver-guide, so you set the pace. Group-joining options are cheaper and more social if you prefer them.
When is the best time for a safari in Tanzania?
June to October is the dry season with the best wildlife viewing. River crossings in the northern Serengeti happen from about July to October, and the calving season in the southern Serengeti runs from January to March. November to May is green, quieter and lower priced.
How far ahead should I book?
For peak months, book 6–12 months ahead because the best camps fill quickly. For quieter months, a few months is usually enough.
Do I need a visa?
Most visitors can get a Tanzania visa on arrival for about $50 per person in cash, and some nationalities can apply for an e-visa online. One Tanzania tourist visa also covers Zanzibar.
Are the river crossings guaranteed?
No. Wildlife is wild. On migration trips we position your vehicle in the Mara River area for two to three days to give you the best chance, but sightings are never guaranteed.
Can children come on safari?
Yes. Most families travel comfortably with children aged 5 and up, children under 5 often enter parks free, and child rates are available. Some luxury camps set minimum ages and walking safaris may have age limits.
Can you customise an itinerary?
Yes. We can add a balloon safari, extra Serengeti days, a Hadzabe walking safari, Materuni and Chemka Hot Springs, a Kilimanjaro climb or a Zanzibar beach stay, and adjust meals, pace and lodge level.
Which languages do your guides speak?
English is standard. Some guides also speak French, German or Spanish. Ask when you request your quote.
What should I bring in cash?
Bring clean US dollar bills for tips and park fees, plus some Tanzanian shillings. ATMs are only reliable in Arusha. Suggested tips are about $15–20 per person per day for your guide and crew.
Is travel insurance needed?
We strongly recommend it, with medical, cancellation and evacuation cover. Some packages include emergency evacuation cover, so ask us what is covered.
