Climbing Kilimanjaro is a big investment, so it helps to know where the money goes. Prices vary mainly with the route, the number of days and the size of your group.
What affects the price of a Kilimanjaro climb?
- Number of days. Longer routes cost more because park fees are charged per day, but they also give you better acclimatisation.
- Park, camping and rescue fees. These government fees are the largest fixed cost and are charged to every climber.
- Crew. Guides, assistant guides, cooks and porters must be paid fairly. A very cheap quote can mean low wages or cut corners on safety.
- Group size. Joining a group or climbing with 3 or more people lowers the price per person.
- Comfort level. Budget and mid-range packages differ in camp equipment, food and hotel nights.
Starting prices on our routes
- Machame Route (6 to 7 days): from $1,467
- Lemosho Route (7 to 8 days): from $1,998
- Northern Circuit (8 to 9 days): from $3,230
These are starting prices from our route pages. They depend on the package level and group size, so check each page for what is included.
Why not just pick the cheapest?
Success on Kilimanjaro depends on acclimatisation, a good guide team and enough days. A slightly longer route usually gives you a much better chance of reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Ask every operator about guide-to-climber ratios, porter pay, oxygen and emergency equipment.
