How Much Does a Tanzania Safari Cost? A Clear Guide to Prices and What Affects Them

How much does a Tanzania safari cost? See what drives the price (park fees, season, lodging level, group size) and example starting prices from a local operator.

“How much does a Tanzania safari cost?” is the first question almost every traveller asks, and the honest answer is: it depends. Two safaris of the same length can differ by thousands of dollars. Here is what actually sets the price, so you can compare quotes fairly.

The five things that decide the price

  • Park and conservation fees. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater charge per person per day, and these fees are a big share of any quote. Ngorongoro also has a separate crater service fee.
  • Accommodation level. Budget camping, mid-range tented camps and lodges, and luxury camps are priced very differently.
  • Season. June to October and the festive period cost most. April, May and November usually cost less.
  • Group size. A private vehicle and guide cost the same for two people or four, so the price per person drops as the group grows.
  • Private or shared. Private safaris give you your own vehicle and pace. Group-joining options can lower the price.

Example starting prices from Let’s Wander Tanzania

These are the starting prices listed on our trip pages. The final price depends on your dates, group size and accommodation level.

What is usually included, and what is not

Our quotes list the vehicle and guide, park fees, accommodation, meals as stated and airport transfers. Flights to Tanzania, visa, travel insurance, tips and personal items are normally extra, so always check what a quote includes before you compare prices.

How to save money without spoiling your trip

  • Travel in the green season (April, May, November) for lower prices and fewer vehicles.
  • Choose a safari of 4 to 5 days instead of a long one, or combine parks wisely.
  • Travel with friends or family to share the private vehicle.
  • Pick mid-range camps instead of luxury lodges.
