Materuni Waterfalls and Coffee Tour: What to Expect

By Christian MabulaNovember 2, 20261 min read

Materuni is one of the most popular half-day trips from Moshi. Here is what the day usually looks like.

The walk

After a short drive from Moshi, you walk through banana and coffee farms on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. Allow time for slippery paths after rain. A local guide leads the way and explains the crops and village life as you go.

The waterfall

The waterfall drops from a high rock face into a pool at the bottom. When conditions allow, many visitors cool off in the water.

The coffee

Chagga families often roast beans over a fire, pound them by hand and serve the coffee fresh. It is a relaxed way to learn how coffee gets from the farm to your cup.

What to bring

  • Sturdy shoes with good grip
  • A light rain jacket
  • Swimwear and a towel
  • A little cash for tips
  • A camera
