The Chemka hot springs, also called Kikuletwa or Maji Moto, are a spring-fed pool of clear, warm, blue-green water in a grove of fig and palm trees. They are one of the easiest and most relaxing day trips from Moshi.
How much does a Chemka day trip cost?
Our private Chemka day trip is $70 per person. The price can change with group size, so send us your group size and hotel for a final quote. It covers a private transfer, entrance fees and a packed lunch. Tips and personal items are not included. See all prices on our Moshi day trips page.
How far is it and how long does it take?
The drive from Moshi takes around an hour or a little more, depending on road conditions, and part of the road is gravel. The full outing takes about 8 hours, with plenty of time to swim, float and rest in the shade.
When to go
Weekends are busy with local families, so we go early on weekdays when we can. The water is warm and clear all year. Read our guide to the best time to visit Tanzania for wider weather advice.
What to bring
Swimsuit, towel, sandals, sunscreen and a little cash for extras. The pool has a rope swing, and the trip is family friendly for confident swimmers.
Combine it with another day
Chemka is a good rest day after a Kilimanjaro climb or a long safari. For a more active day, pair it with the Materuni waterfall and coffee tour on another day, or see more things to do in Moshi.
